Insight Academy of Australia’s primary goal for General English students is to prepare them to communicate successfully in English outside the classroom. The course is designed to develop independent learning through student centred activities with a focus on completing tasks and developing a higher level of communication. It effectively integrates reading, writing, listening and speaking, which optimizes the possibility of a student reaching their learning potential.

Course Duration

The 72 weeks teaching program known a General English course has 6 levels each taught over 12 weeks. Students will be expected to complete homework tasks at least twice a week and should expect this may require up to 10 hours each week.

Course Details

Course Name: General English Non-AQF Award Levels: 6 Duration in weeks: all 6 levels are completed in 76 weeks – 12 teaching weeks is allocated to each level (72 weeks) with up to 2x2 week breaks over June/July and Christmas periods. Mode of Delivery: Face-to-face. Commencing: Every Monday.

Course Entry Requirements

Insight will assess which level students should start at and the recommended duration based on their scores for reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar on the College’s English Placement Test. Alternatively students can progress or enter based on a passing grade in the immediately preceding General English level.

Assessment

Review Tests: Taken from unit study and practice sections
Homework: Homework exercises are chosen by the teacher from the student workbook
Participation: Teachers must observe the frequency and quality of student participation in the classroom. Teachers are required to keep students updated on their level of progress and offer advice to students who are not reaching a passing grade in any assessment area.
Student progression and Attendance: Student must attend 80% and achieve satisfactory course progress through formative tasks and mini tests undertaken in class as well as through homework tasks that are to be completed each week. Please refer to student handbook regarding course progress and monitoring requirements.

Education Pathways

After passing this course, students may be able to pathway into an academic English course such as IELTS, or undertake studies at a higher education level, such as an RTO, TAFE or university.
